Program Summary

Research Orchard Development – update on the development of the new orchard.
Apple Breeding – discussion of germplasm planting and role in development of new cultivars adapted to Washington.
Biological Control – new traps and information on enhancing biological control in orchards will be discussed.
Crop Load Management –mechanical technologies for thinning apple, pear, cherry, and soft fruits will be demonstrated and research results discussed.
Apple Replant – a new planting featuring treatments for managing apple replant disease in organic systems will be shown.
Automated Traps – an automated insect trap will be shown and an update on its development will be given.
Weed Seeker Technology – a technology that targets only weeds when present will be demonstrated.

Directions to Sunrise Research Orchard

The WSU Sunrise Research Orchard is located between Wenatchee and Quincy on Hwy28. From Wenatchee travel south about 11 miles and turn left on Sunrise Ln. Past Field Day Events

The 2009 Field Day events were held at four locations across the state's major tree fruit growing region. Unlike the previous year's events, the 2009 events consisted of revolving stations with active demonstrations or exhibits with experts on hand to answer questions.
