Mission & Goals Statement
The Mission
To change practices, attitudes and perceptions of apple Integrated Pest Management (IPM) activities while sustaining grower profitability through acceptable crop protection, reducing pesticide exposure risks of farm labor, and enhancing environmental quality.
Our Goals
The mission of the Pest Management Transition Project (PMTP) will be accomplished through three objectives in the areas of education/communication, implementation, and assessment/documentation.
- Education and Communication: Provide understanding of new IPM technologies through a program of education founded on research-based knowledge coupled with a multi-dimensional communications system that keeps stakeholders aware of progress being made in the PMTP.
- Implementation: Establish grower-based “Implementation Units” (IU) where sharing successes and failures of IPM practices will lead to an increased adoption of new IPM technologies.
- Assessment and Documentation: Understand the attitudes and perceptions growers, farm workers, and non-agriculture stakeholders have about new IPM technologies, how they influence decisions, and measure changes as new practices are adopted.
